In Hachijojima, Tokyo, a single mother and her rebellious daughter maintain their relationship through a daily ‘bento’ box. This film is inspired by an essay blog.
Single mother Kaori Mochimaru (Ryoko Shinohara) lives with her second daughter, Futaba (Kyoko Yoshine) on a small island. The cute girl who once said “When I grow up, I’m going to run a restaurant with my mom”, is now at a rebellious age. Despite how much her daughter ignores her, Kaori continues to make “character-themed” bento boxes. However, the bento boxes slowly turn into important messages to her daughter. Futaba smiles while remarking ‘how annoying’, hiding the fact that she is truly grateful, and eating every last grain of rice in the bento box.
Everyone is anticipating the last message from mother to daughter.
